An austere Room with a Secret...

Things are not always what they seem to be - right? This room seems to be austere, without any ornateness and gadgets but there seems to be a secret here also. Could it be that there is happening more than it appears at first sight? The hand carved wall relief tells a different story but is this reality or another trick to lure the viewer into phantasies which should not leave the doors...

See more of this hand carved wall piece, named Mithunas, which means "lovers" and which took more than 6 months to finish (inspired by India's temple ornamentation, however my own original design).

White Wall on the red Wall of a Living Room....

This is a simple setting with one of my acrylic paintings from the Reminiscenses series. I like the colours of this room and there is no need to place something very exciting here. It's a corner of contemplation, to have a quiet moment where you take a book and relax for an hour or so and listen to some music...
Here you can see details of the painting Whitewall if you like.

Silk Carving in the Bedroom - Apsara

Who would not love to sleep under a lovely face that watches your sleep like a Madonna? I love this room with the archaic wall and the classical 4-poster bed with that simply white but nevertheless elegant bedspread.
The silk carving© (silk sculpture) on the wall is a reminiscence of one of the most beautiful temple areas in the world: Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Faces and Figures of Angkor is a series about the ruins and remnants of the temple area of Angkor Wat. The reliefs are all worked in silk, inspired by carvings in stone. They are a reminiscence of all the unknown artists of the past of whom we have neither memory nor documentation - only their unbelievably beautiful and sophisticated works, works that have survived hundreds of years.

Apsara is the first piece of this series and represents the heavenly figures which have been praised for their beauty in many Asian countries for centuries. Origins are to be found in Indian mythology which spread in variations all over the Asian continent. The most beautiful sculptures and reliefs can be found at Angkor Wat, created by unknown artists under the reign of kings who have long disappeared but their heritage has not.

See more about the silk carving© series Angkor's Faces here if you like.

A breathtaking Living Room with more than just a Paravent...

A living room with a breathtaking view. In addition a handcarved paravent or Spanish wall that makes this room even more impressive if that is possible at all. But judge for yourself...

The paravent consists of 5 panels which can be taken apart completely. It is called Buddha Amida and its details can be seen here as well as a description of its making and the idea behind it.

Colour Coordination in the Bedroom

I love bed linen such as these, with intricate patterns that embellish a bedroom. A wonderful match would be this silk painting on the wall with the appropiate theme: Ricefields at Dawn, a dreamy landscape to look at when you wake up...
Check out the link above when you would like to see more details of this painting.

Dreaming of foreign Countries and the most beautiful Sculptures of Women...

Quilts are for the bed! But there are silk art quilts which belong on a wall. Such as this one. And it is an hommage to Angkor Wat in Cambodia and its ancient art with hundreds of apsara sculptures, which have been carved into the stone walls of the temples. Ancient cultures, where silks were common in clothing and the interior of houses...

This silk art quilt is called Apsaras, it is completely handquilted with silk and painted. Gold pigments were used to highlight jewellery and ornamentation - but this is not all...
